A Limerick is a funny poem and needs to be 5 lines long and the rhymes should happen on the first, second and last lines and also on the third and fourth lines e.g.

There was a young man from Dundee, / Got stung on the leg by a bee / When asked if it hurt / He said no not a bit / Now I’m off for some cake and some tea.

Send your entries by FRIDAY 26th SEPTEMBER to LIMERICK LAUGHS, Eden Court, Bishops Road, Inverness, IV3 5SA and the best ones will be displayed at the Book Festival with the winner chosen by one of children’s authors.

The Highland Council’s Library Service is delighted to work in partnership with Eden Court to bring you the Inverness Book Festival. ‘Cheer for Books’ will bring you fringe events in libraries in the Inverness, Nairn, Badenoch & Strathspey area.

EVENTS FOR SCHOOL GROUPS

Eden Court is delighted to be able bring school age readers a range of events designed specifically for school groups. There are events for all ages, from enchanting and entertaining sessions with Simon Puttock, for P2 – P4 classes, to a brilliant session with Cathy Forde – one of the UK’s most popular authors for teenage readers. Make sure to book early for these events, as they are likely to sell out.

Tuesday 30 September
Cathy Forde

Suitable for S1-4
Cathy is one of the UK’s top writers for teenagers. Her books include Skarrs, The Drowning Pond, Sugarcoated, Fat Boy Swim, Firestarter, Tug of War and Exit Oz.
Her central characters are teenagers and the settings are often contemporary and Scottish.
A former English teacher, Cathy loves to explore the relationship between teenagers and adults. She has won numerous prizes, including the Scottish Arts Council award and has been shortlisted for the Booktrust Teenage Prize and the Calderdale Teenage Book Award.

Kev F’s Comic Art Masterclass - The writer and artist from The Beano and Marvel comics (as seen recently on BBC 1’s The One Show) will teach you all about comic strip and manga art. You’ll take
away a comic with a strip drawn by you, plus Kev will draw your caricature. Learning about art has never been so much fun.

A playful poetry workshop run by Margot Henderson for young people to develop confidence and creativity. Margot is a poet and storyteller who works as a Community Artist with people of all ages and abilities to create, connect, interpret and inspire. In the last few years she was joint Storytelling Fellow for Aberdeen and Writer in Residence for Cromarty.
‘Write a poem on a leaf/hang a leaf up on a tree/then its there for the world to see.’
